About Flip-Chip Algebra

Positive and negative one illustrated by a Flip-Chip

Flip-Chip Algebra is a visual algebra curriculum created by Frank Edge and Steven Kant.

The Introductory Level textbook covers all of the topics of a standard introductory high-school or college course; all material is presented with manipulatives and pictures. There is no memorizing of formulas or rules, everything is clearly illustrated. Because algebra is essentially arithmetic and many algebra students need a review, the book also covers basic arithmetic and fractions using the manipulatives.

The book uses a set of manipulatives including small squares for 1, bars for x, and larger bars for x2. You can make your own kits from matte board or you can buy plastic kits online.
